Colin is a former number 1 ranked Australian (1971) and Davis Cup Player (71-74). He was a Quarter Finalist in Singes at Wimbledon in 1971 and 1972 and a Semi-Finalist in the Australian Open in 1979. He won the US Open and Wimbledon Singles in the 35 and over and then in 1989 was victorious in the World Dow Seniors Singles and Doubles. He has career tournament victories over Rod Laver, Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl and held the distinction of having "The World's Fastest Recorded Serve" (148 m.p.h.) for 24 years (with a wooden racket).

Colin worked for Department of Customs until 1970 when he started on the World Tennis Circuit. Ranked Number One in the Australia in 1970. He Played the Davis Cup for Australia 1971-74.

He reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon 1971 and 1972. Turned Pro in 1973 winning La Costa WCT event defeating Rod Laver and Stan Smith who was Number One in the world at the time. Later that year won the Eastern Grass courts at Orange Lawn Tennis Club in South Orange, New Jersey, USA, defeating Vijay Amritraj in the Final. In December 1973, defeated the US in the Davis Cup Finals in Cleveland Ohio with the greatest Davis Cup Team ever; consisting of John Newcombe, Rod Laver and Ken Rosewall.

He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 1979 and played his last Wimbledon in 1980 (defeating Ivan Lendl). In 1981 he won the US Open 35 and over Singles event and then in 1983 won Wimbledon 35 and over Singles and Doubles in 1985. In 1989 the Dow World Championships 45 and over were held in Washington D.C., He won the Singles and Doubles winning a record prize purse of $40,000.
